Foreign Minister Faurie met with his counterpart from Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, within the framework of the 72nd Session of the UN General Assembly being held in New York.

The Foreign Ministers discussed opportunities to make progress on bilateral cooperation, primarily in the fields of education, culture and sports. In this regard, the Ministers agreed to foster academic exchanges and explore the possibility of agreements between Universities so that students from both countries can attend courses and have their subject equivalences recognized in the other country.

In terms of the economy, given that Latvia is the latest country to become an OECD member, the Ministers discussed its experience in that regard, in the light of Argentina's OECD membership bid. The Ministers also assessed the progress made in MERCOSUR-EU negotiations.
