In the context of the 72nd Session of the United Nations General Assembly, Foreign Minister Jorge Faurie met with his Italian counterpart, Angelino Alfano, with whom he discussed the main items on the extensive bilateral agenda.
The Foreign Ministers assessed the progress made in MERCOSUR-EU negotiations and the upcoming WTO Ministerial Meeting to be held in Buenos Aires, and agreed to strengthen the positive signs of multilateralism. Faurie especially thanked his counterpart for Italy's support for Argentina's OECD membership bid.
The Foreign Ministers agreed that Italian President Sergio Mattarella's visit to Argentina last May is a sign of the historical bonds between both peoples, highlighting that over 20 million Argentine nationals are of Italian descent, as well as their willingness to promote dialogue in all areas.
The Ministers agreed to continue working with a view to diversifying and balancing mutual trade, which shows enormous potential.
