"It is our intention to put certain global G20 issues back into the spotlight during the Argentine 2018 Presidency, as well as to develop, in all our endeavours, an important agenda on changes in employment, the impact of new technologies and their connection with an education system adapted to innovation," Foreign Minister Faurie stated today in New York during a working breakfast of the 3G Group, established in 2009 as a venue for enhanced interaction between the United Nations and the G20.

The group meets at the UN annually during the General Assembly week. The 3G Group currently comprises 30 countries, including, among others, Chile, Costa Rica, Finland, Kuwait, Malaysia, Montenegro, New Zealand, Peru, Qatar, Senegal, Singapore, Slovenia, Switzerland, Uruguay and Vietnam.

This year, China (which chaired the G20 in 2016), Germany (2017) and Argentina (2018) also attended the meeting.  Countries have expressed their intention to engage in dialogue with Argentina in the light of its upcoming G20 Presidency, seeking to become familiar with our country's views on the G20 agenda and to establish how the 3G Group can contribute to improving the Group's global reach, in order to enhance global governance and tackle international challenges.

"We intend to represent the Latin American region and convey its concerns and aspirations at the G20, including the pressing need to reduce poverty and to improve the quality of life of our people. Ours will be the first G20 Summit held in South America.  It is an honour and a great responsibility, because we must not only establish the Group's agenda but also ensure the continuity of the work carried out and the initiatives adopted in previous years," Faurie explained.

The head of Argentine diplomacy stated that "during Argentina's Presidency we will work on fostering pluralist dialogue between governments, as well as with civil society, academia and the business community; furthermore, we will underscore the need for sustainable economic development by promoting inclusive growth that creates equal opportunities through education, highlighting the role Argentina can play by offering its Southern perspective."

Towards the end of the meeting, the Argentine Foreign Minister announced that "we will reach out to non-G20 members so that their opinions are taken into account in the Group's agenda. All topics and suggestions are most welcome."
