Argentina condemns new missile launch by Democratic People's Republic of Korea

29 November 2017

Información para la Prensa N°: 551/17

The Argentine Republic once again strongly condemns the new launch of a ballistic missile by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea on 28 November. The missile was launched from Pyongsong, in South Pyongan province, towards the Sea of Japan and then landed within Japan's Exclusive Economic Zone.

This is a new act of hostility and provocation against the international community which overtly violates international obligations arising from United Nations Security Council Resolutions 1718 (2006), 1874 (2009), 2087 (2013), 2094 (2013), 2270 (2016), 2321 (2016), 2345 (2017), 2356 (2017), 2371 (2017) and 2375 (2017), which address the North Korean missile and nuclear programmes.

This missile launch, one of the many conducted by the DPRK this year, took place while the plenary meeting of the International Partnership for Nuclear Disarmament Verification was being held in Buenos Aires, at which states with and without nuclear weapons join forces to strengthen the nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation regime.

Argentina once again urges the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea to promptly comply with these Resolutions and end these systematic hostile acts in the region, which constitute a threat to international peace and security.
