On 25 July, the United Nations General Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution declaring 2021 the "International Year for the Elimination of Child Labour".

This initiative was presented and promoted by Argentina through its Permanent Mission to the United Nations with the support of the International Labour Organization, and was sponsored by 77 countries from all five continents. It reflects Argentina's commitment to the creation of decent work for all, one of the main goals of the 2030 Agenda, which will not be achieved unless the different forms of exploitation, including child labour, are eradicated.

In order to contribute to the attainment of this goal, the initiative promoted by Argentina invites the international community, organizations of the United Nations System, other international and regional organizations, civil society, individuals and other relevant actors to engage in activities which create awareness of the importance of eradicating child labour and to share good practices for the fight against this scourge.

Argentina hosted the 4th Global Conference on the Sustained Eradication of Child Labour, which resulted in the adoption of the Buenos Aires Declaration, a document by which the signatory States committed to undertake actions to enhance the visibility of this issue at a global level.
