Información para la Prensa N°: 134/18

The Argentine Government expresses grave concern over the reports on the chemical weapons attack perpetrated on 7 April on the civilian population, particularly women and children, in the city of Douma, Syrian Arab Republic. Argentina conveys its deepest condolences to the victims and their families.

In light of this situation, the Argentine Government expresses its firm belief that this attack must be duly investigated and trusts that the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) will implement the necessary measures in order to determine whether chemical weapons were used and to identify and prosecute those responsible.

The Argentine Republic reiterates that the use of chemical weapons, under any circumstances and by any actor, is unacceptable and overtly violates international obligations arising from the Chemical Weapons Convention and from international law.
