This afternoon, Foreign Minister Jorge Faurie, Senators Federico Pinedo, Julio Cobos and Rodolfo Urtubey, the Governor of the Province of Tierra del Fuego, Antarctica and South Atlantic Islands, Roxana Bertone, and the Argentine representative to the UN, Martín García Moritán, met at UN headquarters with the President of the United Nations General Assembly, Peter Thomson.
The Argentine delegation participated in the session of the United Nations Special Committee on Decolonization in New York that addressed the Question of the Malvinas Islands. At the meeting, a new resolution urging Argentina and the United Kingdom to resume bilateral negotiations so as to resolve the sovereignty dispute over the Malvinas Islands was adopted by consensus.
During the meeting with Thomson, the participants addressed the Question of the Malvinas Islands and the new approach being pursued by the Government as regards the bilateral relations with the United Kingdom, with the goal of fostering bonds in different areas of cooperation and shared interest.
Furthermore, Foreign Minister Faurie underscored Argentina's commitment to the Paris Agreement and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and he also highlighted the negative effects of climate change on our region.
