President Filipe Nyusi requested President Macri's assistance with regard to the appointment of General of Brigade D Javier Pérez Aquino as Director of the Joint Working Group on Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration of militia from the Mozambican National Resistance (RENAMO).
Mozambique seeks to resolve a long-lasting conflict which began after the end of the civil war in 1992.
This initiative is sponsored and supported by Switzerland, which is serving as a facilitator country in the dialogue process.
Argentina's participation is jointly steered by the Foreign Ministry and the Ministry of Defence.
General Pérez Aquino is a serviceman with a distinguished career, who was in charge of successfully supervising the disarmament of FARC in Colombia under United Nations mandate. He will be part of a committee together with Mozambican military men, members of the armed wing of RENAMO and other international experts.
The selection of an Argentine General is an acknowledgement to the commitment of President Macri's administration to facing the numerous challenges posed by Argentina's integration into the international agenda, while defending the values of multilateralism, human rights and the right of peoples to live in peace and safety.
