The Argentine Republic condemns in the most vigorous terms the new nuclear test conducted by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea on 8 September.
This new nuclear test violates United Nations Security Council Resolutions 1718 (2006), 1874 (2009) and 2087 (2013), which urge the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea to return to the Non-Proliferation Treaty and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) safeguards system, as well as to abandon all nuclear weapons and programmes in a complete, verifiable and irreversible manner, immediately ceasing all related activities, including launches using ballistic missile technology and other acts of provocation.
The Argentine Republic considers that the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea should immediately cease all hostile acts, comply with the obligations imposed by the abovementioned Security Council Resolutions, return to the Non-Proliferation Treaty and lay the foundations that would make it possible for the IAEA to resume safeguards activities in that country.
