Argentina to host two international Conferences on Drugs

09 May 2017

Información para la Prensa N°: 169/17

On 15-19 May, the Argentine Republic will host two international conferences on drugs, which will be held at the Palacio San Martín, seat of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship.

The Annual Meeting of the Cooperation Programme on Drugs Policies between Latin America and the European Union (COPOLAD) and the 19th High Level Meeting of the EU-CELAC Coordination and Cooperation Mechanism on Drugs will address political dialogue on biregional cooperation and coordination on the issue.

This mechanism provides an environment for dialogue and cooperation between the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), which comprises 33 countries, and the European Union (28 States), geared towards the exchange of experiences, good practices and, above all,  information so as to jointly address the World Drug Problem.

For its part, COPOLAD is a Cooperation Programme financed by the European Union that seeks to improve the consistency, stability and impact of Latin American drugs policies.

The 19th High Level Meeting will issue the Buenos Aires Declaration, which will outline the consensus and agreements reached on the occasion.

It is worth noting that Argentina's performance as the host country and as an active participant in these international meetings is part of one of the goals set by President Macri when taking office: the fight against drug trafficking.
