Within the framework of the United Nations, the "High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development" met for its first period of sessions after the adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Among other functions, the Forum plays a crucial role in monitoring the network of global follow-up and review processes, working jointly with the General Assembly, the Economic and Social Council, and other relevant bodies and fora of the United Nations System, in accordance with their specific mandates.
Argentine Deputy Foreign Minister Foradori led the Argentine delegation, which included the Executive Secretary of the National Council for the Coordination of Social Policies of the Argentine Presidency, Gabriela Agosto, the Director General of International Relations of the Argentine House of Representatives, Juan De Dios Cincunegui, and the Director for the Comprehensive Approach to Special Programmes of the Council mentioned above, Laila Brandy.
Throughout a series of thematic sessions under the general topic "Ensuring that no one is left behind," the meeting served as a forum for representatives of the States and of the United Nations System to exchange experiences and lessons learnt, as well as to hold interactive discussions.
During his intervention, the Deputy Foreign Minister stated that "the adaptation of the 2030 Agenda to national development priorities included prioritizing objectives, and defining and quantifying goals based on national circumstances, from the perspective of the Argentine Government's ultimate goal of 'Zero Poverty'," adding that "the theme of the event, Sustainable Development, must be based at all times on the premise of "Ensuring that no one is left behind."
In addition, during the Forum, a parallel event on "Forced labour in production chains" was held. The event provided an opportunity for different actors to hold interactive discussions on the international efforts for and challenges posed by the eradication of slave and child work, human trafficking and modern slavery in global value chains.
