Communiqué on the Colombian Peace Agreement referendum

With respect to the referendum held on October 2nd, through which the Colombian people expressed its opinion on the Peace Agreements with FARC, the undersigned Ministers of Foreign Affairs are convinced that its result should not be interpreted as a rejection of peace or a return to conflict.

They congratulate the Colombian Government and FARC for their commitment to the agreed ceasefire, which is fundamental, and note that peace is a value to be built with effort and perseverance.

In this respect, the Ministers highlighted the call on all Colombian political forces issued by President Santos, as well as his efforts to find points in common and unity, in order to continue building, together with all Colombians, paths that will make peace possible and strengthen it.

Finally, the undersigned Ministers express the firm and renewed commitment of their Governments to accompanying the people of Colombia in peacebuilding tasks that will bring along more prosperity and unity for Colombia and the entire region.
