The Argentine Government congratulates the Government and the people of the Republic of Colombia on the long-sought closing of a complex dialogue process that reflects the genuine commitment of all the parties to achieving long-lasting peace and the unity of the Colombian people.

The signature of the Definitive Peace Agreement at the event held in Cartagena de Indias on 26 September 2016 put an end to more than fifty years of conflict in the Republic of Colombia and marked the beginning of a time of great opportunities for the next generation of Colombians to build a society with a renewed democratic commitment. It also gives the Colombian people the possibility, on the basis of reconciliation, to fully enjoy the benefits of the peace reached.

The Argentine Government reiterates its firm commitment to accompanying the Colombian people in the peacebuilding activities that will bring more prosperity and unity to the Republic of Colombia and the whole region.
