At UN headquarters today, Foreign Minister Susana Malcorra stated that “current threats to peace and security require a cross-sectional analysis including, for instance, the connection between terrorism and organized crime: drug trafficking, illicit trafficking of weapons, human trafficking, money laundering and illicit trafficking of migrants."

During the High-Level Debate on United Nations, Peace and Security held at the UN, Malcorra maintained that: "Today’s challenges require global and holistic action to mitigate the suffering and increase the resilience of societies in the short term, as well as reduce vulnerabilities in the long term, thus strengthening national capacities”.

The Argentine Foreign Minister highlighted "the need to increase and improve women’s participation in all decision-making circles concerning peace and security. Effective and significant participation by women contributes to resilience; to greater efficiency in humanitarian, peace and security efforts; and, ultimately, to sustainable peace. This also applies to youth. It cannot be just an add-on; it is a determining factor.”

“We need not reinvent the wheel as an Organization. We only need to keep the focus on our problems, design possible solutions, do our work and reaffirm our commitment in order not to leave anyone behind,” remarked Malcorra at the end of her address at UN headquarters.
