Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.E. Ms. Susana Malcorra, Foreign Minister of the Republic of Argentina and Executive Ministers.

The Secretary-General met with Susana Malcorra, Foreign Minister of Argentina and a number of senior government officials.
The Secretary-General expressed appreciation for the Government of Argentina’s steadfast support for the United Nations. He congratulated the Government and the Argentine people on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of their independence.
The Secretary-General and the Ministers discussed Argentina’s contributions to peacekeeping, humanitarian affairs and to the UN Mission in Colombia.
The Secretary-General thanked Argentina for its leadership and strong support for UN peacebuilding efforts, including the Peacebuilding Commission. The Secretary-General also appreciated Argentina’s renewed efforts in promoting South-South cooperation.
He also expressed his gratitude for Argentina’s strong commitment to the 2030 Agenda and for working closely with the UN Country Team on its implementation.
The Secretary-General and the Ministers also discussed Argentina’s advances in terms of human rights and current challenges. He acknowledged the example Argentina sets in promoting political participation of women. The Secretary-General congratulated Argentina on its renewed commitment to tackling climate change.
