REGRESAR

Open Ended Working Group on the IV Special Session of the UNGA devoted to Disarmament - Closing session

Statement by Counselor María Paula Mac Loughlin

July 15

Mr. Chair,

Allow me first of all to express to the French delegation the deepest condolences of the Government and of the Argentine people over yesterday´s terrible attack on the city of Nice.
Mr. Chair, I would like to extend our appreciation for the way in which you have conducted the work of this Group and for your tireless pursuit of agreements in the perhaps more complex aspects of our discussions.

In our intervention on Monday, we considered that the document proposed by you was a good basis for our work, and even after the many readings that we have had the opportunity to do this week we are convinced that it remains so as long as we renew our commitment and constructive will in this process that we would like to culminate successfully next year.
As the Group's mandate is to prepare recommendations on objectives and agenda, we consider it important to preserve an adequate wording of these, without using them to prejudge the results of the work to be carried out by an eventual Special Session of the General Assembly.

Mr. Chair, you can count on the support of the Argentine Delegation during the intercessional consultations, in order to reach a balanced and committed language for the draft document on its objectives and agenda and in particular for paragraphs 6.

Thank you very much
