This afternoon, at the Palacio San Martín of the Argentine Foreign Ministry, a ceremony was held to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Agreement between Argentina and Brazil on the Peaceful Uses of Nuclear Energy, which led to the creation of the Argentine-Brazilian Agency for Accounting and Control of Nuclear Materials (ABACC).

The event was chaired by Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Foradori and was attended by the Secretary of the Argentine-Brazilian Agency for Accounting and Control of Nuclear Materials (ABACC), Sergio Solmesky; the Chargée d’Affaires a.i. of the Brazilian Embassy, Gisela Padovan; the Chairman of the Nuclear Regulatory Authority, Néstor Masriera; and the Undersecretary of Nuclear Energy, Julián Gadano.

At the ceremony, Ambassador Foradori stressed that this agreement was a turning point in the history of the bilateral relationship and underscored Argentina’s and Brazil’s strong commitment to pledge their unwavering support for a policy aimed at the peaceful uses of nuclear energy. He also highlighted that, ever since its creation, "ABACC has played a central role in the consolidation of strategic relations between Argentina and Brazil, which made it possible to shift from a paradigm of competition to one of cooperation.”

On 18 July, the date when the Agreement was originally signed, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, and the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Yukiya Amano, sent messages of congratulations on the anniversary, which were read during the event.
