The Second Committee is responsible for agenda items related to economic, financial and environmental affairs.
Main issues addressed by the Committee include the following:
-Macroeconomic policy questions. International trade and development; International financial system and development; External debt sustainability and development; Commodities;
-Eradication of poverty and other development issues;
-Follow-up and implementation of the outcomes of the International Conferences on Financing for Development;
-The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development;
-Environment, biological diversity and climate change;
-Operational activities for development of the United Nations system;
-South-South Cooperation;
-Groups of countries in special situations;
-Agriculture development, food security and nutrition;
-Information and communications technologies for development;
Argentina is committed to the design and implementation of an economic and social system that ensures sustainable development, while improving the quality of life of people, promoting social inclusion and poverty eradication, as well as encouraging the preservation and rational use of its resources. The development of science, education and capacity training without discrimination are also central elements in this approach.
Argentina's position on sustainable development envisions a balanced and integrated approach to economic growth, social development and environmental protection, in a context of unconditional support for the democratic form of government and the respect of human rights.
In line with its condition as a developing country, the Argentine Delegation participates in the deliberations of the Second Committee in coordination with other member countries of the Group of 77 and China. It also maintains close cooperation and consultations with other countries in the region, mainly through the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC). In that context, it supports the search for multilateral solutions to the different aspects of development issues, and actively participated in the negotiations that culminated in the design of the Sustainable Development Goals and the adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Argentina encourages the participation of civil society organizations in discussions, within the existing rules of procedure.
