United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, will make a State Visit to Argentina on 7 and 9 August, and will have a meeting with President Mauricio Macri.
Also, Ban Ki-moon will meet with authorities from the Legislative and Judicial Branches, and have work meetings with Foreign Minister Susana Malcorra and Foreign Ministry officers.
In addition, the Secretary-General is scheduled to visit the Parque de la Memoria and to attend a Conference organized by the Argentine Council for International Relations (CARI), among other activities.
Ban Ki-moon's visit to Argentina will be his last as Secretary-General, given that his second mandate as head of the United Nations Secretariat ends on 31 December. Some of the issues prioritized during his term in office are the promotion of sustainable development; women's empowerment; support for countries undergoing crises or instability; generating a new momentum in terms of disarmament, arms control and non-proliferation, and the strengthening of the United Nations.
The Secretary-General will be joined by UN Secretariat officers and by his wife, who has dedicated her attention to women and children's health, including autism, the elimination of violence against women, and a campaign to prevent mother-to-child transmission of HIV/AIDS.
Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's visit will be a good occasion to strengthen Argentina's commitment to multilateralism and to the three pillars of the United Nations' agenda: peace and security, development and human rights.
