Use of chemical weapons in Syria

05 April 2017
Información para la Prensa N°: 113/17

The Argentine Republic is following with concern the information published by local and international media regarding the alleged use of chemical weapons in the Arab Republic of Syria, and expresses its heartfelt condolences to the victims and their families.

The use of chemical weapons is a new act of hostility and provocation against the international community which overtly violates international obligations arising from the Chemical Weapons Convention.

Our country once again vigorously condemns the use of chemical weapons in Syria and expresses its firm belief that all those responsible for their use must be held accountable. The Argentine Republic opposes the use of chemical weapons in any situation, under any circumstances and by any party.

Recently, the President of the Argentine Republic visited the headquarters of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), where he ratified Argentina's commitment to the goals of the organization.
