The Argentine Government deeply regrets the death today of the President of the Republic of Tunisia, Béji Caïd Essebsi, and conveys its condolences to his family and to the Government and people of Tunisia.

 President Essebsi was a centrel figure in the process of democratic transition and consolidation of Tunisia, which began in late 2010. Since he took office as Head of State on 31 December 2014, he undertook to lead Tunisia towards peace and sustainable economic development. In that context, the relationship between Argentina and Tunisia was significantly strengthened.

The Government and People of the Argentine Republic stand with the Government and People of Tunisia at this sad hour and pay homage to the memory of President Essebsi.
