Environmental Chemistry workshop at the Foreign Ministry

On 11-12 December, the first regional workshop on "Chemistry applied to Environmental Safety and Protection" was held at the Argentine Foreign Ministry, organized by the Argentine National Authority for the Chemical Weapons Convention (ANCAQ), together with the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), the International Foundation for Science (IFS) and the Argentine National Institute of Industrial Technology (INTI).

The event was attended by 19 researchers and experts from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Honduras, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela, as well as by representatives from OPAQ, IFS, INTI, the Ministry of Production, the Argentine Institute of Scientific and Technical Research for Defence (CITEDEF) and Argentine chemical industry chambers.

The workshop sought to to exchange views and experiences on the application of scientific and technological innovations, including the use of green and sustainable chemical methods and the promotion of safe practices, both for human beings and for the environment.

The goals of the workshop were to disseminate the latest results of studies and technological advances in Latin America and the Caribbean, particularly as regards research projects funded by the OPCW, as well as to examine new opportunities to promote similar activities in the context of specific programmes run by the OPCW and other institutions.

The workshop was also included within the activities carried out by Argentina this year to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the OPCW.
