Information for the Press N°: 020/19

The governments of Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Panama, Paraguay and Peru:

1.         Recognize and express their full support for the President of the National Assembly Juan Guaidó, who has taken office today as the Interim President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, in accordance with constitutional provisions and in view of the illegitimacy of Nicolas Maduro's regime.

2.         Support the beginning of the process of democratic transition in Venezuela within the framework of its Constitution, in order for new elections to be held as soon as possible, with the participation of all political actors and meeting the necessary international guarantees and standards for a democratic process.

3.         Condemn the acts of violence in Venezuela and call for the rule of law, the fundamental rights of individuals and social peace to be guaranteed during the government transition.

4.         Ratify their decision to continue to strongly support the restoration of democracy in Venezuela.
