STATEMENT ON BEHALF OF THE GROUP OF 77 AND CHINA
BY MR. SEBASTIAN DI LUCA, THIRD SECRETARY, PERMANENT MISSION OF ARGENTINA TO THE UNITED NATIONS, ON AGENDA ITEM 143, ADMINISTRATIVE AND BUDGETARY ASPECTS OF THE FINANCING OF THE UNITED NATIONS PEACEKEEPING OPERATIONS: CLOSED PEACEKEEPING MISSIONS, AT THE SECOND PART OF THE RESUMED SIXTY-FIFTH SESSION OF THE FIFTH COMMITTEE OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY
Mr. Chairman,
1 I have the honour to speak on behalf of the Group of 77 and China. We would first like to thank the Controller, Mr. Jun Yamazaki, and the Chair of the Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Questions, Mr. Collen Kelapile, for introducing the reports of the Secretary-General and the ACABQ respectively.
2 The Group fully supports the intention of the Secretary-General to return the amount of $70,600, reflecting two-thirds of the adjusted net credits available in the account of UNIKOM, to the Government of Kuwait.
3 As for the unpaid assessments, accounts payable to Member States and other liabilities of closed peacekeeping missions, the Group would like to express its readiness to explore, during this session, options to achieve a fair solution to this long standing problem.
4 In conclusion, the Group would like to assure you, Mr. Chairman, that it will engage actively and constructively in the coming deliberations on this important issue.
Thank you Mr. Chairman.
