Statement on behalf of the Group of 77 and China by Mr.Majed Bamya, First Counsellor at the Mission of the State of Palestine to the United Nations.
April 5
Thank you, Madam Chair.
I have the honour to deliver this statement on behalf of the Group of 77 and China at the closing session of the Fifth Committee for the first resumed part of the seventy-third session of the General Assembly.
At the outset, allow me to express the Group's appreciation for you, your Bureau members, and all facilitators in achieving a good outcome during the First Resumed Session. The Group recognizes the work of Ms Sharon van Buerle and her team, and the conference service officers who worked tirelessly to support this Committee.
The Group is pleased that the Committee has completed its work within the allocated time for this session. We thank all Groups and member states for their flexibility and constructive engagement. This allowed the Committee to reach consensus on several items, including but not limited to After-service health insurance, Progress on the implementation of the Organizational Resilience Management System, Construction of a new facility for the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals Arusha branch, the Joint Inspection Unit and system of accountability of the UN Secretariat. We believe that these resolutions will enhance the efficiency of the Organization in delivering its mandates. We regret that consensus was not achieved on several other items.
The Group looks forward to working with you, your Bureau, and all delegations in the Second Resumed Session. The Group recalls that the Second Resumed Session of the 72nd General Assembly was particularly challenging, due in part to an extremely heavy agenda and the late introduction of items. Such circumstances can and should be avoided. The Group expects that the relevant documents will be issued in a timely manner, so as to facilitate constructive engagement during the Session.
I thank you.
